Why a Circuit Breaker Will Trip
A circuit breaker trip has a number of causes. Trying to diagnose these electrical issues on your own can be dangerous. Risks include electrocution and fire. Hiring an experienced electrician is the safest way to fix the problem.
Causes that might trigger the circuit breaker to trip:
- Overloaded circuit. This is perhaps the most common cause of a circuit breaker trip. The fix is as simple as unplugging appliances. If the circuit breaker keeps tripping, contact us.
- Short circuits. You plug in or power on an appliance and right away the circuit breaker trips. This is a short circuit. We will troubleshoot and determine if the short is in the electrical circuit, breaker, or the appliance.
- Gound fault. This is the most serious cause of a circuit breaker tripping. In a multi-branch circuit, determining the cause is not easy. When an electrical circuit has an open neutral, the (120V/240V) line voltage may access the operating voltage which may cause home electrical fire.
