Stay cool with a breeze!
Installing a ceiling fan is a little more complicated than the do-it-yourself electrical project. Many questions need to be answered before starting the project.
- Do the existing circuits have the correct wiring?
- Are you going to pull new electrical wiring or rewire
the ceiling fan to the existing electrical circuit?
- Is the ceiling fan going to replace an old light fixture?
- Are you planning on operating the fan by switch or by using manufacture recommend fan remote control?
- Does the fan include a light kit? If so, are you going to operate the light and fan by installing new wall switch controls or dimmer switch or separate on/off switches?
- Is the installation going to be on a high ceiling or low ceiling?
- Is the best location for the fan based on the location of the strongest ceiling joists? On the other hand, if the joist is not centered, where you want your fan (in the center of the room, above your bed, etc.)?
- Did the original electrical contractors install a mounting bracket between the joists?
- Is the correct UL-rated electrical box for your ceiling fan available?
- When finished, will the fan be properly balanced and leveled to prevent wobbling?
The above need to be answered before starting to install any ceiling fan. If not done correctly, it could not only look bad, but could also be dangerous to you and your family.
